G11’s 11th May – Meerkats v Dolphins |

The Girls 11’s Meerkats played at home against their sister team the Nedlands Dolphins. After scoring a string of goals during their last two games, the Meerkats were brought back down to earth this week by the Dolphins, who put up a great.defence against their larger rivals. The final score was 1-0, with Nina Trimboli from the Meerkats being the only goal scorer for the day. During the first half the Meerkats dominated possession, and made numerous attacks on goal only to have them reach the safe hands of the Dolphin goalie, or be deflected by the Dolphin defenders. The Dolphins defended strongly and were able to repel the constant attacks from the Meerkats, apart from the one loose ball that Nina was able to put away. During the second half the Dolphins fought back and made their own couple of really strong runs at the Meerkat goals. The game then turned into a back and forth battle with some great attacking runs by both teams. The Meerkats attacked well and did a good job in using the long passes that Steve has been making them practice at training. Both teams put up a fierce battle right to the final whistle. The final score could have been a lot different if it wasn’t for the efforts of the hard working goalies. The small but gutsy Clara Lipscombe did a fantastic job for the Dolphins, and Kelsey Lang and Claire Breidahl were strong and able goalies for the Meerkats. Well done to both teams – Go Nedlands!
